Diving at Vaavu Atoll with itouch Blue.

Vaavu (or Felidhoo) Atoll is an untapped tourist paradise, is composed of 19 beautiful islands and many spectacular dive sites, where the crystalline  warm waters here are teeming with fish and marine life, here we have the largest supply of superb diving for beginners and experienced divers.

Vaavu Atoll boasts Fotteyo Falhu, the largest intact coral reef in the Maldives, 50 km long and the most easterly point of the archipelago.

One of the characteristics of this area is the presence of many deep channels known as Kandus characterized by currents full of nutrients. Throughout the year you can find many sharks in the strong currents, such as gray reef sharks and white tip reef sharks, and you may be lucky enough to see hammerhead sharks.

In addition, this atoll is an ideal place for manta ray sightings and they can be found in great numbers from May to November. Whale sharks are common here at certain times of year, particularly on the east side of the atoll. You will also be treated to encounters with huge schools of fish such as barracuda, snapper and trevally.

We are lucky in have within an hour of navigation some of the most spectacular diving in the world. One of these is Fotteyo Kandu, considered by many as one of the best dive sites in the Maldives because of the wide range of biodiversity that can be found there. The channel is narrow and has to swim through small caves and large overhangs. The drop off at the entrance of the channel is covered with colorful soft corals. Several groups of gray reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, tuna and barracuda are common in this wonderful piece of underwater world.

In the early morning you might be lucky enough to have the company of hammerhead sharks while diving in the outer part of the channel. Easy to meet large groups of sea eagles, along with big groupers, stingrays resting on the sand patches and turtles on the walls of the channel.

Another spectacular diving spot, lives up to its name is Miyaru Kandu, or “Shark Channel”, far from Keyodhoo only 45 minutes by boat. The drop off at the entrance of the channel is about 30 feet deep, is covered with colorful corals.
